The runic stave and how it differs from a sigil

In short

A sigil is assembled freely — a unique sign for your intention. A runic stave is built from runes: each carries its meaning, and they combine into a construction, like a formula. A sigil is closer to an image, a stave to a blueprint. Viki makes both.

The sigil

Free graphics. No fixed alphabet; the symbol is born from the phrasing itself. Two people with similar intentions get different sigils. It works as a personal image legible only to you.

The stave

A construction of runes — signs with fixed meanings. The runes are overlaid on one another and form a single sign where each element answers for its part of the task: one for protection, another for movement, a third for completion.

Hence the main difference: a stave can be taken apart again and explained element by element. That’s exactly what Viki does — she sends not just the image but the breakdown of what it’s built from.

Which to choose

  • A sigil — when the intention is personal and resists being split into parts.
  • A stave — when the task is clear and breaks into stages: protect, get there, secure.
  • Not sure — tell Viki what you want and she’ll propose the format herself.

Aesthetics

Viki draws staves in a stone-carving style — angular graphics that look cut into a surface. Sigils are usually softer and more fluid. That’s not just beauty: the different visual languages keep the two tools from being confused.

How it looks in the chat
Sigil or stave — which is better for me?
Depends on the task. If it splits into steps — «protect, negotiate, secure» — I take a stave; each rune answers for its piece there. If it’s one whole state, like calm — better a sigil. Tell me what you need and I’ll propose.
Choose the format

Describe the task — Viki proposes sigil or stave.
