The additional numbers in the square
Besides the date’s own digits, the calculation uses four additional numbers, derived by summing the date’s digits by fixed rules. Their digits join the same nine cells — which is why the finished square is almost always richer than the raw date.
Why they exist
Date digits alone would make a poor picture: eight digits across nine cells would leave most squares nearly empty. The additional numbers thicken the calculation and, by the method’s logic, express not just the birth moment but the built-in potential.
How they’re derived
- First: the sum of all the date’s digits.
- Second: the digit sum of the first number.
- Third: the first number minus twice the first digit of the birth day.
- Fourth: the digit sum of the third.
Schools differ slightly on the rules — especially around zeros and two-digit results. So two calculators may give slightly different squares.
What happens next
All digits — the date’s and the four numbers’ — are distributed across the cells. Hence a square often holds more digits than the date did.
